Stanley H. Sparks, 83, of Tryon Dr. Glenville died peacefully January 30, 2010 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.
Stan was born on October 15, 1926 in Gloversville, the son of the late Clifford and Evelyn Hughes Sparks and attended Broadalbin High School. He was raised in Edinburgh and married Barbara Jean McDade in 1947. The couple lived in Guilderland several years before moving to Burnt Hills in 1969.
Stan was a heavy equipment mechanic and worked over 20 years for Vellano Bros. in Latham. His passion was his family. He was influential in the forming of Sparks
Excavating, working alongside his two sons for many years. Stan was proud of his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. He wholeheartedly supported his grandsons interest in Sprint Car racing. Stan was fond of NASCAR himself, a fan favorite of his, Jimmie Johnson.
Stan was always one to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Stan is the loving father of Russell(Jeanette) Sparks of Ballston Spa, David (Vickie) Sparks of Edinburgh and Leslie (Denny) Mycek of Charlton; brothers, Arthur Sparks of Chesterton, IN and John (Cheryl) Sparks of Edinburgh; his grandchildren: Michael and Elise Guy and Cory Sparks; great grandsons, Nathaniel and Nicholas. Stan was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Jean (McDade) Sparks and daughter, Barbara L. Guy, and a brother Clifford Sparks.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family Tuesday from 5 - 8 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville. A private burial will take place in the spring at Union Mills Cemetery in Broadalbin.
