Peter G. Sotile, 77, after a long illness, died at Ellis Hospital on Saturday, February 13, 2010.
Peter was born in Schenectady, N.Y. His early years were spent in Scotia, N.Y. He graduated from Scotia High School where he played football in the early 1950s. Peter served two years in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1956 from the Signal Corps with a rank of 1st lieutenant. After the service, Mr. Sotile worked for the General Electric Company. During his training in the manufacturing training department, he was assigned to Pittsfield, Mass., Fort Wayne, Ind. and Jonesboro, Ark. After graduating, he accepted an assignment in Decatur, Ind. where he worked for eight years. He then moved to Schenectady where he retired from KAPL in 1980. Mr. Sotile then became active in Sotile Builders Inc. which his father founded in 1969. He was vice president of Schenectady Home Builders Association in 1981 and president in 1982.
Mr, Sotile was predeceased by his father, Peter Sotile and his mother, Elizabeth Pareene Sotile of Glenville, N.Y. He is survived by his wife Bj Sotile and their six children: Susan Sotile of Niskayuna and her two children Laura and Michael Schrom, Peter Sotile III and son Peter IV of Palm Bay, Fla., Michael Sotile of Minn. and his two children, Michael and Michelle of Niskayuna, Karen Sotile and her three children Jacqueline, Erica and Tim Wade of Concord, N.H., Kathleen Brooks and her husband Ash and their daughter Rachel of Denver, N.C. and John Sotile and his wife Karen and their two sons John Chase and Lucas Harry of Rexford, N.Y.
Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17 at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., East Glenville and be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Church, First Street, Scotia. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Troy-Schenectady Rd., Niskayuna. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 16.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peter's name are requested to be made to a charity of one's choice.
