Francis J. Baidy, 76, of Swaggertown Rd. passed away at Ellis Hospital July 21, 2010.
Born in Milton, PA, Francis was the son of the late Stephen and Agnes (Tlucek) Baidy. He graduated from the Williamsport High School and grew up behind the "Home of the Little League World Series" baseball fields. He worked a full schedule at the Firestone Tire Co.
and still managed to excel at semi-pro baseball (Pitcher Rocks League). In '56 he was inducted to the Army where he served in Fulda, Germany then as a reservist until 1962. On April 28, 1962, Francis married the former Jeanne Williams at St. Mary's Church in Schenectady, where the church's, pastor Reverend Michael Zakens, performed the ceremony.

Francis was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service 33 years, retiring from the Glenville office in 1999. He regularly gave his input and advice to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions (Penn State). A favorite place of Fran's to go in the summer was Saratoga Race Track. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden but mostly adored his beautiful grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne, his mother-in-law, Helen Williams of Scotia; three daughters, Roberta Zaharkin and her husband Michael of Spencerport, NY, Dr. Kathleen Crowe and her husband Russell of Ballston Lake and Theresa Baidy of East Greenbush. He leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: twins, Megan and Zachary Zaharkin and Abigail Crowe; brothers, Stephen John Baidy Jr. of Pennsville, NJ, Paul Baidy of Schenectady, Joseph Baidy of Lititz, PA and Robert Baidy of Woodworth, LA. Many nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, July 26, at 9:15 am from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. followed at 10 am at St. Anthony's Church, Schenectady where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Facci. Interment will follow at 12:30pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Veteran's Cemetery. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be on Sunday from 4-6 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home.
